Course Objectives:

At the end of course the delegate would gain the insight and competence based skills in the following areas:

  • Understand Epidemiology of maternal near misses, maternal morbidity, mortality and Obstetric intensive care admission trends in India.
  • To describe the implications of physiological and anatomical changes that are unique to pregnancy in the critical care setting.
  • Discuss the diagnosis and critical care management issues in parturients with Hypertensive disorders of Pregnancy: Hypertensive crisis, Eclampsia, HELLP – AFLP.
  • Discuss and describe embolic disorders in pregnancy (VTE, AFE etc)
  • Discuss common hematological problems in Obstetric ICU.
  • Discuss multidisciplinary team approach and intensive care management issues in parturients with common co-morbid medical conditions like: endocrine disorders, Liver disorders, Tropical infection & HIV, Severe sepsis, Acquired and Congenital heart diseases, peripartum cardiomyopathy, SLE, Catastrophic APLA, neurologic emergencies, respiratory failure etc.
  • Understand methods of providing optimal multi-organ supportive goals in a parturient with MODS:
    • NIV, Ventilatory Goals & Prone Ventilation in Pregnancy – Objective: To maintain optimal Transplacental excgange
    • Catastrophic Obstetric Haemorrhage: Transfusion triggers, POCT – Rotem, Monitoring, End points, Post Resuscitation Care
    • Nutritional Support – Objective: Prevention of Lactation Failure
  • Renal supportive therapy: When and How?
  • Decision to deliver in obstetric critical care: When and How?
  • Anticoagulants usage, titration and Bridging therapy
  • Discuss CPR in pregnancy, Resuscitative Hysterotomy (perimortem cesarean section) and Neonatal resuscitation
